As deadly famine has spread throughout the Horn of Africa,
of those spilling into refugee camps out of desperation, up to 90
percent are women and children. Mothers are walking an average of 30
miles to refugee camps in desperation, only to discover the children
in their arms dead upon arrival. In some regions of Somalia, global
acute malnutrition among children is at 50 percent and death rates are
growing every day. By the time these mothers get to the borders for
help, it is often too late. Some 29,000 children under the age of 5
have died already in the last few weeks. Tens of thousands more are
risk.
Relief International is one of the few organizations at the HEART of
the crisis in Somalia, where Somali women and children don’t
have to endure the long and deadly trek to refugee camps in Kenya and
Ethiopia. To-date, our teams in Somalia have saved 1,262 children
through therapeutic feeding programs. Together we can help
save more children from famine.

29,000 have died of hunger already. 200,000 people may perish without intervention in just the next few weeks.
